Triclops Tadpole Trike
ORGANIC ENGINES
TRICLOPS TRIKE
The Triclops is a US made tadpole trike. It may be the most adjustable
and heaviest tadpole in its price range. Organic Engines says “It’s a
tank, but in the best possible way.” it doesn’t have an official maximum
rider weight but “you'd have to be over 400 lbs worry Organic Engines.”
Weighing in at 42lbs its track is 32” and its 34″ wide overall. The seat
height is ~12″. We do not typically stock the Triclops but would be glad
to order one for you.
Being a tadpole trike the Triclops has two steer-able front wheels and
one rear drive wheel. The rider sits low between the front wheels for
stability & good handling. The Triclops is not as light or fast as a
Catrike, Ice, Greenspeed or WizWheelz trike but is lighter and faster
than a Sun trike. Like the WizWheelz , Ice and Sun the seat recline
angle is adjustable. All these tadpole trikes come with Under Seat
Steering (USS) which I find provides a very relaxing arm position. Like
most trikes the Triclops has 27 speeds using a triple chainring and 9
speed cassette. Many trikes, including the Triclops can be customized
with up to 81 speeds using a Sachs Dual Drive 3x9 rear hub for a really
wide range of gears.
Like most recumbent trikes The Triclops uses as many standard bike parts
as possible. Therefore most upgrades and repair parts are easy to find,
they can be serviced at your local bike shop if they are interested. The
Triclops is not the lowest or the lightest tadpole trike, and these days
it has a lot more competition than it did in 2000. Catrike, ICE,
Greenspeed and WizWheelz all have tadpole trikes available. Some are
lighter (especially Catrike) some are less expensive (especially
WizWheelz.) They are worth looking at. Like most tadpole trikes the
Organic Engines Seat is full mesh. The Triclops has a pair of front disc
brakes and in the rear a pair of rim brakes. Though fun at low speeds
(on ice or a wet lawn!) I think a rear brake is dangerous on a tadpole
trike at higher speeds. If you lock up the rear wheel the trike can
quickly turn sideways and flip, potentially ejecting you onto the
pavement.
Try a variety of trikes before you decide on your favorite. We stock
Tadpole trikes from Catrike, Wizwheelz, Ice, Greenspeed and Sun. We can
order you a trike from Organic Engines if you like.
Adjusting it to fit you is done by moving the seat or pedal boom or
both. From a 32” X seam to a 50” X seam you should fit one of these. Be
careful not to put your weight to far forward or rearward as both are
adjustable.
The Triclops frame is made with 4130 Cro-Mo Steel; its seat frame is
6061 Aluminum alloy with a seat cover of UV resistant polyester / vinyl
mesh with nylon straps and Fastex buckles. The powder coat paint is
available in red, orange, gren, blue & black.
Weighing in at 42lbs, 38″ wheel base and 70″ long over all. The track is
32″ and the width is 34″ seat height is 12″ which varies with the seat
angle adjustment.
TROIKA TANDEM TRIKE
Solidly built in the USA, the Troika tandem trike offers great stability
for those who want a recumbent tandem but are having difficulty with
balance. The price is a bit lower than Wizwheelz tandem trike. Like all
Organic Engines trikes, the Troika steering mechanism uses headsets
instead of pins and bushings. The Troika is US made.
