Now at the Bicycleman: Velotric E-Bikes!

We have something new here at the Bicycleman, Velotric E-assist, NON-recumbent bikes!

This Summer I drove down to the Pine Creek Trail in Pennsylvania to ride my recumbent along the 60-mile, car free, Rail-To-Trail that runs along Pine Creek.  If you haven’t tried it, do yourself a favor and check it out.  At one of the trailheads, the parking lot was full of folks unloading E-bikes to ride the trail.  A lot of them were from a brand called Velotric.  I asked how they liked their bikes, and the people raved about how comfortable and fun they were.

The next day at work I started calling some of my contacts in the bike industry to see what they knew about them.  The consensus was that they treated their dealers well, had a mechanism in place to allow dealers to match internet sales promotions and still make money, were great with warranty issues, and were in it for the long hall.

There are some things which are non-negotiable for us.  Longevity is a big concern for a shop.  We have been selling and installing e-bike motor kits for twenty years and have had three companies go out of business on us, which left our customers (and us) out of luck getting replacement batteries and parts.  Parts need to be available, and support needs to be US based.  No e-mailing China for tech questions.

We also want e-bikes which are affordable, but not junk.  That price point seems to be in the $1500-$2500 range.  With Velotric, that gets you bikes which are UL certified both for the battery and the actual construction of the bike itself.  The warranty seems fair also, two years on the electric components, two years or 300 charge cycles on the battery, and one year on the mechanical parts.  That doesn’t include damage due to improper use and operation-don’t ride it in the salt, leave it out back in a snow bank, fall off a cliff etc. and expect a warranty-that’s just common sense.

Another thing we wanted was a selection of bikes that make sense for our customer base.  Velotric has folding bikes which will fit in an RV or a hatch back, hybrid style bikes that are comfortable and fairly light to lift onto a bike rack, and full suspension bikes with wide tires and camo paint jobs for hunters and outdoor people.  All with low-step frames that make it easy to get on and off the bike and powerful motors to keep riding fun.

What we bring to the table is peace of mind for you.  We are all bike mechanics with decades of experience installing e-kits and building and repairing all types of bikes and trikes.  We will match any factory sale pricing from Velotric and will assemble and maintain your bike locally.  We also offer test rides so you will not have to take a chance on something you only saw online.  The Velotrics are in stock now.  We look forward to seeing you!
